The Fastnet seen from the western side, taken in April after a bit of a storm. In the background you can see a fishing boat gathering pots. I have been to the Fastnet many times both by helicopter and boat. It holds a certain fascination for me. In these rough winter storms it is hard not to feel pity for the lighthouse standing out there. Imagine the life of the keepers there, being pounded by savage gales. This tower was completed in 2004, replacing the cast iron one, the stump of which you can see painted black. They decided to replace when a similar cast iron tower on the Calf Rock was destroyed. I have pictures of that as well from sea and air.
